In a world brimming with complexity, where good decisions matter, HAELO was born to simplify the intricate, detect the emergent, and bring clarity where there’s ambiguity. But how did the name HAELO come to be?
Before Christmas, I attended an event where someone asked if HAELO meant something in Hawaiian.🤔
It doesn’t, but it does have meaning!
I started HAELO in 2016 as a consulting business and wanted my company to reflect my Scottish heritage, something uniquely Scottish like 'Schiehallion or 'Clytach.' However, after feedback from non-Scots friends (who struggled with the pronunciation), I went back to the drawing board.
Weeks passed until my wife suggested, “What about HAELO?”
'HALO? Like H-A-L-O?' I asked.
'No,' she said, 'HAELO, as in H-A-E-L-O.'
She explained HAELO was from the Old English word 'hǣlo' meaning health, wholeness, wellness and prosperity, a perfect match for my mission to help businesses prosper, and stay ‘in good health.’ BINGO! We had a fit.
She then sucker punched me, and explained HAELO was also a play on my own name, the last four letters of my first name and the first letter of my surname. Talk about destiny.🙌
HAELO has evolved from a one-man consultancy to soft launching our first commercial SaaS product at the end of this month. It’s been a long road, bootstrapping along the way, countless sleepless nights, and learning as I went.
I could not have done it alone, and I’m incredibly grateful to my wife Denise O'Connor, friends, mentors, and supporters who helped me along the way and continue to this day. 🤲
HAELO has been with me forever, in name, mission and spirit and I’m just getting started. 🚀
To everyone building something from the ground up: Keep going. The road is winding, but if you do it with dignity, purpose, and direction, you’ll find your way.
